            Cons

            • - Tools aren't cccessible from the outside
            • - Lacks some tools that are consdirred

Take a step back and look past the unique look of the Leatherman Crunch and don’t instantly think “I need pliers, not vice grips”. What you had the option to have vice grips that could still fit in your pocket instead, what are you mission out on? I was a little disappointed when I first say these, but they could be useful after I put some thought into it.

The Crunch is a game changer when it comes to multi tools. Most of them come with a form of needle nose pliers and then build their unique aspects from there. This is the first multi tool that I know of where someone started with something different and made us rethink the concept of multi tools completely.

I know this isn’t going to be the best multi tool for everyone, but it’s worth considering for a lot of us. Think about when you do use your pliers and consider how many times the vice grips would be an inconvenience as opposed to being helpful. When I thought about it that way, I was on board and bought a pair of these for myself.

            Function

As we already have mentioned, the vice grips are the first function you need to consider. You would be giving up needle nose pliers for them and it is important that you are OK with that trade. If so, then this tool could beat the rest of the pack by default.

I do suppose that I should talk about some of the other tools the Crunch has to be fair. Because the vice features takes up a ton of real estate, they had to keep this to the bare essentials. With a knife, file and a few drivers, you are going to be missing out of a few tools you may desire.

            Portability

Looking at this tool I bet you are thinking it must not be very portable, but you are wrong. At 6.9oz and only 4 inches long, this is one of the most portable multi tools on the market. It is extremely light and compact, making it a great option as a tool to carry with you every day. Another potential deal breaker for some is that none of the tools are accessible from the outside. You need to open the tool in order to use anything.

            Ergonomics

As with all the other Leatherman multi tools, this one is very ergonomically correct. The edges are rounded so that it fits in your hand very well.

Another thing to consider is how much more comfortable it is to loosen something hard with the vice grips over a multi tool with just pliers. The tool will be doing half of the work for you by gripping whatever it is you are trying to turn.

            Value

I would consider this a specialty tool, so its value really depends on whether or not you will make good use out of the vice grips. If they are useful to you, then the Crunch is a very good value to you. For less than $100, you are getting a lightweight and reliable multi tool to carry around.
